The Westmont Montessori School

Montessori Philosophy

Over 100 years ago Dr. Maria Montessori developed her theory of education
after observing young children and paying close attention to how they learned.

The Montessori classroom has a dual focus. The first is to allow a child to
experience success through hands-on learning in every area of the classroom.
The second is to develop a child's character by showing him how to be
competent and capable, and by teaching him every day life skills. The
Montessori philosophy provides a foundation for both motivating a child to
love learning and to develop a willingness to accept his life¹s challenges.

Years of experience have proven Dr. Montessori's theory that a young child
will flourish when immersed in an environment that excites and motivates
him, while at the same time addresses his interests and developmental needs.

"(My daughter) was nurtured, encouraged and respected, gained confidence, learned socialization and learned to think and make decisions."
